Margaret Siu
Margaret Siu is the recipient of the 2020 British Marshall Scholarship, which funds her graduate education at the University of Oxford and the London School of Economics. Currently, she is spearheading The Cranes Project (www.cranesproject.com), a memorial honoring the lives lost to COVID-19 and providing a space for collective grief in the state of Texas. She is also the project lead researcher for Oxford University’s Silk Road Society, studying alternative economic and development models to the Belt and Road Initiative. Previously, Siu researched for the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ Human Rights Initiative as a Congressman Bill Archer Fellow. There, she researched Western and Chinese supply chains and assisted with supporting material for a hearing in the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC) on how American industries affect the growth of China’s labor camps. Siu was also a guest lecturer at Beijing Foreign Studies University. Siu began her career founding Apricity, the official literary and arts journal for the University of Texas at Austin, contributing to her interest in soft power diplomacy. Siu holds a B.A. in Plan II Honors Program with concentrations at the University of Texas, a certificate in Mandarin Chinese from the National Taiwan Normal University (國立臺灣師範大學), and a certificate in Business Analytics, Financial Accounting, and Managerial Economics from Harvard Business School’s HBX Program.
